Cultural and social background on asset management in Japan

Asset management used to be considered something for the rich or the experts, but nowadays anyone can start it easily.

Thanks to the spread of the internet and smartphones, information has become more accessible and various investment products and services have emerged.

But there was one most decisive social factor that pushed asset management.

Why is asset management a hot topic among the Japanese?

Looking at it from an economic perspective in Japan, various factors such as prolonged low interest rate policies and the instability of the future pension system have raised awareness of individual asset formation. Additionally, due to changes in the labor market and increased economic uncertainty, many people are taking personal responsibility and developing an interest in asset management as a preparation for the future.

Regarding saving, the economic instability and rising living expenses have prompted many individuals to review their expenditures and aim to increase their savings. There is also growing interest in financial products such as stock investments and NISA (Nippon Individual Savings Account), with more individuals choosing them as a means to pursue future asset formation.

Finally, due to the coronavirus pandemic, more people have started working from home or teleworking, which made them rethink their time and money management more seriously.

These are the reason why more people have become interested in asset management in Japan.

How the Japanese are trying to cope with the situation?

There are various methods and risks involved in asset management. Which one to choose depends on your personal goals and personality. It also depends on the market and economic trends.

That’s where the articles of bloggers who are actually doing asset management can be helpful. They share their experiences and knowledge with us.
